UNISON’s Youth and Community Workers’ Committee is now in a position to consult
members on the contents of the Youth and Community Workers JNC pay claim for 2024/25.
UNISON’s Youth and Community Committee is therefore asking branches to consult
members on the proposed draft headlines for the pay claim. Members’ views will be
collated and fed into the JNC (Pink Book) Staff Side (Unite, UNISON, UCU and NEU) so
that a joint pay claim can be submitted to the Employers’ Side. The pay settlement date is 1 September 2024.
The Committee have agreed the following proposed priorities for the pay claim:
An increase of at least £3,000 or 10% (whichever is greater) on all spinal column points
UNISON is also seeking feedback and suggestions from members on any  non pay/conditions elements of the pay claim. Please include any views you have in your reply.

Since 2010, UNISON members in youth and community services have received a
combination of pay freezes and sub-inflation pay increases. This means that the real value
of pay has fallen significantly. So while we know that local authorities have had their
funding cut, UNISON’s view is that a pay increase for our members is long overdue and
urgently needed. Funding for this pay increase needs to come from the Westminster Government.

What happens next?
Branches are asked to carry out as wide a consultation as possible of their Pink Book members on the proposals before Thursday 28th March. so please email office@plymouthinunison.org.uk with your views

A submission will then be made to the Trade Union Side of the JNC, based on the results of the branch consultation, and a final pay claim will then be drawn up.
The claim will then be presented to the Employers, with negotiations to follow.
