The annual meeting of UNISON Labour Link South West took place on Saturday 16 March 2024 in Bristol

Meeting heard that 2024 will see a change in Government, most likely in November.

It is extremely important South West Labour Link is active. We must campaign to return a majority Labour Government and demand Labour MPs improve the working lives of our members.

UNISON has been successful in securing a cast iron promise on the implementation of the New Deal for Working People that will implement day one rights for workers and ban abuses like zero hours contracts and fire and rehire as well as the repeal of the anti trade union laws passed by the Tory Governments of the past 14 years. https://labourunions.org.uk/newdeal/

We are also confident that our campaign for a national care service will show up in the manifesto and there was a lot of positive noises from visiting PPCs about insourcing in the NHS and elsewhere.

We also got some specific offers form Fred Thomas the Labour Candidate for MP on Plymouth Moor View to assist with our HCA banding campaign at Derriford Hospital and to look into moves to undermine terms and conditions in school meals services at some MATs

Please Labour Link Levy/Labour Party members do take part in SW Labour Link plans in this General Election year.

There remains many areas where the current Labour leadership is falling short of the ambitions that UNISON policy sets and motions were passed to encourage it to take effective action to secure a ceasefire and a peaceful resolution to the Gaza situation and to come up with a long term policy to secure levels of local government funding so that pay can start to rise again and the threat of widespread bankruptcy of Councils recedes.
