UNISON is undertaking new research to develop a positive vision for the future of local government. In order to strengthen our campaigning to defend local government and secure proper funding and pay, we want to set out a positive vision for how local government could transform communities and local economies. From the cost of living crisis to the climate emergency, we know that, with the necessary funding and powers, local government can transform people’s lives for the better – but that austerity has held the sector back from reaching its full potential.

We are keen to hear from members working in local government to help shape this piece of work, and have organised four online workshops where you can share your priorities and ideas for the future of local government. We know that it’s the people on the frontline, working in councils, libraries and schools day in day out who are expert on local government, so we are asking for your input.

Join our policy officer, Anna Birley, at one of our online roundtable discussions.

All sessions will be held on Zoom, the passcode for each is policy. If you have any access requirements such as closed captioning or support joining online meetings, please let us know by Wednesday 21 September.
