It’s time for school support staff to have their say on some key elements of the School Support Staff Negotiating Body (SSSNB) for England.

The SSSNB will have an impact on all school support staff in England, deciding pay, terms and conditions, as well as looking at new approaches to training and development.

The Department for Education have now launched a public consultation which will gather views on exactly who should be covered by the new negotiating body, and evidence on current pay and conditions.  While UNISON will submit a national response on behalf of all our members, it is vital that as many school support staff as possible take part in the consultation, to make sure that the final negotiating body reflects what the people most affected by the SSSNB want and need.

We have emailed all UNISON members in schools in England today to encourage them to take part in the consultation.

How to take part in the consultation
Any member of school support staff in England can take part in the consultation using the link below.  There are seventeen questions that can be answered by members of school support staff.

The attached guidance provides further explanation of these questions and UNISON’s recommended responses.  The recommendations are based on the position of UNISON’s National Schools Committee, and aim to make the SSSNB a positive development for all school support staff.

In particular you branch has been lobbying to include outsourced staff such as cleaners and caterers who are increasingly being removed from current terms and conditions including pensions by this method
