The joint unions representing council and school workers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland have submitted our claim for a pay increase of £3,000 on all pay points. We hope to receive a pay offer in late April.

Our campaign for a fair pay offer starts now! It is vital that we push for an increase in council funding from central Government, so that a decent pay offer is fully funded.

The Spending Review due to be published in June is a chance to secure long term financial relief for councils facing unprecedented hardships. We must not miss this opportunity.

Meet with your elected representatives
The best way to persuade politicians to help is to meet with them in person. We have published detailed advice on how to go about this. If you do not have an existing relationship with your MP, you can start by:

  • Attending their next constituency surgery
  • Inviting them to your workplace to meet colleagues at a roundtable discussion
  • Aiming to find volunteers to meet with your MP during your AG
  • Writing them a joint letter on behalf of you and your colleagues, explaining how cuts have affected you and asking for their support.

Ask your councillors to commit to the cause
Local councillors can voice their support for this pay rise, raising the issue directly with local government employers and putting pressure on them to make a decent pay offer.

Use our tool to email your councillor today, asking them to support you and your colleagues’ pay claim.

If your councillor is engaged and keen to help, it may be easier to send them our councillor briefing which provides background information on why this issue is so important, as well as steps they can take to lobby their national representatives and the Treasury in Westminster.

We will be emailing every councillor with this briefing, but they are far more likely to take action following a personal interaction with a constituent.
