The first donations and messages of solidarity have started arriving in the Plymouth in UNISON member support fund.

Thanks to all those who intend to show their solidarity by either joining the picket line or donating money

Plymouth in UNISON has maintained a hardship fund for many years. and have used it to support other groups of strikers in the past. Nationally UNISON will cover up to £50 a day of lost wages from these strike days and the branch can top up anybody who asks us to who has lost more than that. The branch will also take on the administration of both payments to make sure strikers don’t have to wait too long after pay day as there is sufficient money in the fund.

We really hope that the employer will see the strength of feeling on Monday and Tuesday and come to an agreement, but it has taken longer elsewhere and as trade unions we know the value of looking after each other until we win our disputes. That’s solidarity in action,

Messages of solidarity can be emailed to office@plymouthinunison.org.uk or tweeted to @PlymouthUNISON

Below is small sample

A Statement of Support from Brandon Dawkins, SEIU 1021 Vice President of Organizing –

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I am Brandon Dawkins, Vice President of Organizing for SEIU Local 1021 — a union of more than 60,000 employees in local governments, non-profit agencies, schools, and healthcare programs throughout Northern California. I write to express my strongest solidarity with you all at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth as you embark on a two-day strike.

As a healthcare worker myself, I understand that frontline staff are the heartbeat of patient care. From San Francisco to Plymouth, healthcare workers’ fight for proper recognition are one-in-the-same. We are strongest when all workers — regardless of country — stand together.

Your fight is our fight, and your courage sets a powerful example. Stand strong, and know that you are not alone in your struggle.

In solidarity,

Brandon Dawkins
