The Trade Union Side of the NJC Executive met recently to receive feedback from each union’s consultation on the 2024 pay claim, and agree the headline claims.

The meeting agreed a headline claim of an increase of £3,000 or 10%, whichever is the greater, along with claims for:

  • A clear plan to reach a minimum pay rate of £15 an hour in a maximum of two years, sooner if possible
  • An additional day of annual leave for all staff regardless of their current entitlement (with term time only staff able to take this day during term time)
  • A two hour reduction in the working week with no detriment
  • Review of gender, ethnicity and disability pay gaps

It was also agreed that we should reiterate our existing call for 52 week contracts and pay for all term time only staff who want them.

It was further agreed that the unions should push the employers to work jointly with us to campaign for more funding from central government for local government pay.

Given that we obtained agreement for all of UNISON’s proposed claims, your reps felt able to agree to the other elements proposed by GMB and Unite and were conscious that we need to present a more united front this year.
